Minimum Standards

It is every Club’s legal and moral responsibility to provide a duty of care to children within their structure.  The Cricket Wales Welfare Structure is designed to provide every Club with help and support and to signpost you to all the information you need to make your Club safe and welcoming to children within our game.

"it is a mandatory condition that all Clubs affiliated to Cricket Wales follow the requirements detailed in the ECB Safe hands"

The following minimum requirements exist for specific roles within cricket…

 Where can I get training?

Safe Hands – These courses are 3 hours in length and are bespoke for the Cricket Club Welfare Officer role, there is a small charge which can often be claimed back from Community Chest – Speak with your League Welfare Officer to establish availability

SPC Classroom – These courses are 3 hours in length and available generically throughout Wales and often through Local Authorities, other sporting bodies and the like.  Cricket Wales also runs such courses – Speak with your League Welfare Officer to establish availability

SPC Online – The Safeguarding and Protecting Children (SPC) Course can be completed as an online training package, but ONLY BY QUALIFIED AND CERTIFIED ECB COACHES. So Club Welfare Officers who are accredited ECB Coaches can complete their SPC online.  To arrange online access please contact

DBS – Application Packs (which contains a form and supporting documentation) can be obtained from…

Or call the ECB DBS Team on 0845 251 3000
DBS Evidence Checkers (or verifier’s) are listed inside the DBS Packs.

You will find a detailed download of the DBS process on the Welfare Downloads Section soon

Please note: the DBS must be Cricket specific ie: vetted by the ECB

First Aid Certificate – These courses can be arranged through your Cricket Development Officer (CDO), see the Cricket Wales Website (click the “ABOUT” tab at the top of the screen). Your Club can also arrange First Aid courses themselves, as long as it is with a registered body, eg. Red Cross, etc, or some local authorities also run First Aid courses

Please Note: The SPC & First Aid certificates will be accepted via vocational or other sports, but the Safe Hands is Cricket specific.
